Saving Your Marriage Before it Starts

At Emmanuel, marriage preparation is designed to help pre-married couples grow in understanding, readiness, and confidence as they step into married life. Our program connects couples with one of our trained marriage mentor couples, who guide them through a pre-marriage assessment (SYMBIS) and subsequent pre-marriage sessions tailored to the results of the assessment and/or the curriculum being used.

The Pre-Marriage Mentoring Process

Although the number of sessions can vary, we recommend that couples plan to commit to a 6 to 8 week process with their mentor couple. This allows time to explore important topics, address concerns, and answer questions that should be considered before saying “I do.”

Our mentoring program combines practical guidance on marriage preparation with the personal and relational support of a mature mentor couple. They help couples learn how to navigate both the day-to-day joys and challenges of married life. Many couples continue their relationship with their mentors well into their marriage and find it to be a lasting source of support and encouragement.

Policy for Couples Married by Emmanuel Staff

It is the policy of Emmanuel Baptist Church that any couple being married by a staff member, after having at least one session with the pastor performing the ceremony, participate in and complete the pre-marriage mentoring process.
